Dominio de la Vega, Cava Reserva Expression : A great festive fizz from Spain, fresh and zesty on the nose with a lovely, and seriously dry, palate comprising of rich citrus fruits, apricot and just the right amount of bitter orange peel flavours. Complex with a liveliness that makes it perfect for aperitifs as well as with food.
Domaine de Marce, Touraine Sauvignon Blanc : From the high-altitude, warmer commune of Oisly in Touraine, this zesty, herbaceous Sauvignon delivers classic flavours with a touch more oomph, perfect for Christmas dinner.
Aubert et Mathieu, Hautes Pistes Chardonnay: We were lucky enough to taste the Hautes Pistes wines with Aubert of Aubert et Mathieu this autumn and we were very impressed with the whole range. The Chardonnay delivers village level Burgundy quality for a fraction of the price.
Pavette, Pinot Noir: Great value Pinot Noir isn’t usually associated with California so we were over the moon to discover this beauty from Pavette in Napa. This is a wonderfully easy drinking Pinot with ripe red cranberry, raspberry and cherry fruits, a touch of smokiness and lovely creamy texture. Ageing takes place in a mixture of stainless steel (80%) and French oak (20%) for 10 months prior to bottling.
Aubert et Mathieu, Hautes Pistes, Syrah: Another standout wine from Aubert et Mathieu, spicy and rich with great complexity. A real winter warmer!
Piandimare Montepulciano: A Morgan Edwards staple. Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is known for its soft, caressing fruit profile, and this wine is exactly what you’d expect: spiced plum and chocolate aromas introduce a core of soft, plummy flavours with potpourri overtones framed by good acidity and some structural tannins. The chocolatey finish is lifted by balsamic freshness.
